You must be aware that wearing masks in public places has been made mandatory in Delhi again due to the rising no. of Covid-19 cases.
Many undergraduate and postgraduate students who will be appearing for their offline exams in the month of May or June this year might want to reflect on the following questions though some of them (especially the ones enrolled in Open or Distance Learning programmes) are already stressed due to non-availability of study material of many subjects on their college’s website and cancellation of a few online classes of some subjects.
Will you be able to write your exam comfortably while wearing a mask? Do you have a choice?
Will you be allowed to write your exam without wearing a mask if you experience breathing problems? Would that be even safe to do?
Will there be sufficient ventilation at the examination centre so that you don’t feel short of breath while writing your exam?
Are you one of those students who have a lung disease like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)?
Most websites will tell you that almost all people with a lung disease can and should wear a mask as ‘they don’t restrict your breathing but you might feel slightly uncomfortable, but that’s not a sign that you’re getting less oxygen though your breath might feel warmer.’
Having said that, we hope that the fans at the examination centre are well-maintained keeping in mind that writing an exam while wearing a mask for around three hours in summer season is not an easy task, especially when you are doing it for the first time.
It can be ensured that at least all the windows in the examination hall do open and the fans don’t need the capacitors to be replaced. Afterall, a 2.5 microfarad capacitor manufactured by a reputed company like Havells costs only thirty-five rupees.
If you have gone through such a situation already and would like to share some tips with the students who are going to write their exams in the month of May and June, please feel free to write your comments below.
A much needed article; Someone has to talk about this issue.
